The Hongkong Prize 2023 is Now Accepting Applications!
The Hongkong Prize is one of Asia’s premier prizes that could open doors of opportunity. Winners receive both monetary awards and access to Hong Kong’s premier research facilities, making it the perfect way for scientists to advance their careers in one of the world’s most vibrant science hubs!
Each year, a group of top scientific researchers is selected in a wide range of fields to receive the BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize. Through the prize, we hope to inspire more scientists to continue their innovative exploration in Hong Kong, and foster scientific leadership. The prize also serves as a platform to help Hong Kong attract global top science talent and nurture forward-looking scientists, with the ultimate aim of building the city into an international R&D hub.
This year, the prize was awarded to six individuals. They include an activist fighting against the erosion of democracy and Zeng Jinshu, a renowned scientist who is advancing humanity’s knowledge of life in the universe through his ground-breaking discoveries. In addition, the prize was given to a team of scientists who developed a highly durable and energy efficient lithium metal battery, as well as an intelligent floor mat that can detect falls and prevent injuries among elderly people.
The prestigious Hongkong Prize has given rise to such outstanding achievements as a high-speed battery that is more than twice as powerful as current models, a super-stable lithium-ion solar cell and a flexible circuit board that can be easily reshaped. It is an honor to award these young scientists and their teams for their groundbreaking discoveries with a great social impact, and to encourage more of our fellow citizens to pursue excellence in research.
