The Hong Kong Prize For Innovation and Technology
In the past 20 years, the Hong Kong prize has been awarded to scientists and engineers whose research has contributed significantly to the development of the economy and society in the region. The Hong Kong Prize aims to attract world-class scientific talent to Hong Kong, and to foster forward-thinking scientists who will build an active innovation and technology hub in the city. In addition to the monetary award, the winners of the HK Prize will benefit from the global visibility offered by top-tier media coverage and a wider network of potential collaborators.
The prestigious prize, which is the first of its kind in Asia, will be awarded to scientists who have made significant contributions to economic development in Hong Kong by promoting industrial development and enhancing quality of life. The winner will receive a monetary prize and an engraved gold medal. The competition will open to residents of Southeast Asia, mainland China and the rest of the world. The application process will begin March 1, with the first round of winners announced in early May.
Applicants will be evaluated by an independent panel of reviewers. The panel will consider the scientific research achievements and their practical applications, the transformation of knowledge into tangible benefits for society, as well as the social or economic value created by the research project. The judging criteria will also include societal impact, sustainability, and the level of public awareness generated by the research.
In 1973, the Government of Hong Kong established the Good Citizen Awards (GCA) scheme to reward members of the public who have rendered valuable assistance to the Police in the prevention or detection of crime, or in the apprehension of criminals. The scheme is also aimed at encouraging the public to report crimes, and to be prepared to act as witnesses.
A controversial movie about the future of Hong Kong won the best film prize at the city’s top film awards on Sunday. Ten Years, a series of five vignettes, taps residents’ worst fears for the semi-autonomous Chinese territory as Beijing tightens its grip on the city. The movie was a box office hit in Hong Kong, but was not released on the mainland for political reasons.
