The Hong Kong Prize and Scholarships

One of Asia’s premier writing competitions, the hongkong prize draws thousands of participants yearly from around the region. It honors academic achievements and extracurricular activities while encouraging participants to pursue their passions and expand their global perspectives. Winners receive monetary prizes and book vouchers, as well as an opportunity to showcase their talents at an awards ceremony. However, before submitting an entry to the contest, it’s important for authors to read through the rules and regulations carefully to avoid costly mistakes that could jeopardize their chances of winning.

The hongkong prize is open to residents of Southeast Asia, mainland China, and the rest of the world. Interested applicants can visit the World of Winners splash page starting March 1 to register for their chance to win. Those selected as winners will be flown to Hong Kong for an unforgettable experience of this fascinating city while immersing themselves in its culture. Winners will also receive shopping vouchers and F&B benefits as rewards for their participation.

In addition to recognizing individual achievement, the hongkong prize also seeks to foster collaborations between scholars and students of Hong Kong studies, thereby promoting new theories, concepts and methods for studying Hong Kong and its relations with China, Asia and beyond. This year, HK$2 million in total was awarded to two teams of researchers for their outstanding research projects.

This year’s hongkong prize saw nine artists from Hong Kong make the shortlist, a record number for the award. The grand prize went to Pakistani artist Sameen Agha, whose sculpture called A Home is Terrible Place to Love depicted a collapsing house that earned him a $30,000 cash prize and a commission to design an art piece for the Four Seasons hotel in Hong Kong.

Another prestigious award, the hongkong prize scholarship, recognizes outstanding academic achievements and extracurricular activities among students from across Asia. The scholarship is offered in two categories, the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Early Career Contribution Award, and is a biennial award. The winner of the award will receive US$100,000* (for Lifetime Achievement) or US$50,000* (Early Career Contribution), and will be honoured at a ceremony hosted by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Those nominated for the hongkong prize have been recognized as having made outstanding contributions in their fields, regardless of their ages, races, nationalities, genders and religious beliefs. They have demonstrated leadership in their professional lives, and their research findings have led to major breakthroughs and had a profound impact on the field globally. They have also demonstrated outstanding teamwork, commitment and creativity in their work.
