Hong Kong Pools – Where to Cool Off in the Summer Heat
Swimming is a fun and healthy activity for people of all ages. It provides a low-impact workout that burns calories, and it also helps to relieve stress from daily life. It can be a great way to spend quality time with loved ones or even spend some solo time. But if you’re looking to get your swim on in the summer heat, you’ll need somewhere cool and refreshing.
Luckily, Hong Kong has plenty of pools to choose from. Whether you’re in the mood for a relaxing dip or a fun swim with your kids, there are lots of options to suit your needs. And while it’s hard to beat a pool in the comfort of your own home, you can always head to one of Hong Kong’s many public pools to escape the summer heat.
After a phase-two easing of social distancing restrictions, the city’s pools are slowly welcoming swimmers back into their lanes. However, some clubs are still unable to open their facilities due to a shortage of lifeguards. A spokesperson for the Hong Kong Recreation and Sports Professionals General Union said 20 of the city’s 45 public pools have told their members they can only open some of their lanes or facilities. “If some of the swimming pools cannot operate this summer, it will affect both swimmers and their instructors,” he added.
The spokesman added that pool management was the responsibility of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), which had not yet decided when all of the facilities would be ready for the season. The LCSD has introduced measures to address the issue, including raising the salary of seasonal lifeguards and recruiting more on two-year contracts. But it will take time to fill the vacancies.
Aside from the perks of being close to home, a hotel pool offers more amenities and comforts than most private pools can offer. In addition to a wide selection of indoor and outdoor pools, most hotels have a variety of water zones for different age groups, as well as spa and wellness facilities. And with a little luck, you may even be able to spot some celebrities swimming in the pool!
While you’re there, why not sign up for a membership and enjoy all the benefits it has to offer? From complimentary wellness consultations and spa treatments to a pool deck and lounge area, there’s no reason not to soak up the sun and the sights.
