Hong Kong Prize 2024

The HK$100,000 Hari Art Prize 2024 invites self-taught artists and recent art graduates who are within their first ten years of their artistic career to submit their artwork online. The winner will be awarded a cash prize of HK$100,000 from sponsor Harilela Hotels. The winner will also be given a chance to showcase their work at various galleries.

The Hong Kong Mathematical Award (“HLMA”) is a unique and internationally renowned award to recognize outstanding mathematical contributions with direct impact on scientific, business, financial and engineering applications. The award is established with the generous donation from Professor Wang Gungwu and matched by the Government Matching Scheme.

HLMA celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. A series of events have been organised to mark this milestone, including the awards ceremony and a special exhibition on the “research journeys” of the Hong Kong laureates.

This year, two students from Harrow International School Hong Kong received the Gold Award. Kyan Cheung Ka-Hin and Ethan Soh Jon-Yi’s research on “On the Properties of the Semigroup Generated by the RL Fractional Integral” has won high praise in the world of mathematics.

Five scholars at Hong Kong universities won the BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize 2024, a prestigious award that supports the city’s future tech-innovation and societal transformation. They have made breakthroughs in the fields of artificial intelligence and robotics, life and science, new materials and nanotechnology, and fintech.

Among them, Ng Siew Chien was recognised for developing noninvasive tests to improve the early diagnosis and intervention of gastrointestinal tract diseases and autism spectrum disorders. Other winners include Chen Shih-chi and Zhang Hua for their groundbreaking work on phase engineering of nanomaterials, 3D micro- and nanofabrication, and innovative data and AI security technologies respectively.

Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu gave a virtual address at the awards ceremony to congratulate the awardees on their remarkable achievements. He also praised their commitment to global education development.

The Xplorer Prize is a prestigious award sponsored by Tencent Foundation that encourages young researchers in the Mainland, Hong Kong and Macau to explore unexplored areas of basic sciences and frontier technologies. The winning teams will be rewarded with funding and support to carry out further research on their projects, and the best project will be awarded with the HK$3 million Xplorer Prize.
