MCAS Data – Data SGP

Data sgp is an open source software package that allows teachers and researchers to use standardized and robust tools to calculate, analyze, visualize and interpret MCAS student growth percentiles. The package also provides higher level functions (wrappers for the lower level calculations) that make it easy to run a variety of advanced SGP analyses.

In a world where the term ‘big data’ is commonly used to describe datasets that are so large that they require complex and specialized data management applications, analyzing SGP data seems relatively straightforward in comparison. However, even a small analysis of SGP data can produce very large numbers of results, so it is important to be able to manage this data effectively.

The sgp data sgp package was designed to address these challenges. The package allows users to easily set up and manage large SGP data sets. The package also includes high-level functions that provide simple and convenient wrappers for the lower level SGP calculations, making it easy to run a variety of different analyses.

SGPs place a student’s performance in the context of other students with similar score histories. For example, a sixth grader’s SGP is compared to students who scored similarly on prior MCAS assessments in the fifth grade.

This process can be repeated for additional grades, providing a longitudinal view of a student’s learning. In addition, SGPs can be analyzed at the school and district level to support data-driven decision making.

A student’s SGP is calculated using up to five years of test score history, including the Badger year. However, in order to generate a SGP for a given assessment year, the student must take two tests in two separate testing windows. For example, a held-back student must take two tests in the Autumn window and one test in the Winter window before having an SGP generated for their current year performance.

sgp data sgp includes a number of higher level functions (sgpPercentiles and studentGrowthProjections) that can be used to create summary tables for various types of analyses. These tables can be easily filtered and exported to other data visualization applications such as bubble plots or scatterplots.

In addition, the package includes the sgpData_INSTRUCTOR_NUMBER lookup table, which contains instructor information associated with each student’s test record. The sgpData_INSTRUCTOR_NUMBER table can be used to easily filter out student records by their instructor, simplifying many data preparation tasks. Finally, the sgpData_INSTRUCTOR_NUMBER column can be added to any report or chart for easier identification of the teacher of a particular student record.
